| Understanding
Our Website
September, 2005 proudly brings the relaunch of the Temple of
Poi website. This article will help you understand what is found
where.
Page Layout
Our site is designed to provide lots of great information while
also entertaining your eyes with dazzling images of flow artists.
Each page is constructed, from top to bottom, to include the following
areas:
- Logo - The Temple of Poi
logo and tag line are located in the upper left hand corner
of the screen.
- Background Navigation - This
is the purple navigation menu located in the upper right hand
corner of each page. These areas provide background information
about the school, staff, performances and artists of the community.
- Main Navigation - The main
navigation is the yellow menu bar sandwiched between the Temple
of Poi logo and the breadcrumb/banner box below it. This navigation
menu focuses on technical information, classes, ideas, skills
and tools for flow artists.
- Breadcrumb - Between the
banner and the main navigation section is the "breadcrumb"
which is a list of links you can traverse to find your way back
to the home page. All underlined items in this purple area are
links to information which will be more and more general the
closer to the left side of the breadcrumb you select. The bread
crumb allows for easy movement throughout the site without relying
on the browser's "back" button.
- Banner - To help you keep
track of the general area you have found your way to on the
site, we have a banner below the breadcrumb. The banner is the
image on the upper portion of the screen with a word or words
defining the area of the you are currently exploring.
- Main body - On each page
you will find the detailed information about the current topic
in the main section of the page which is the area shaded in
light pink with a gray Temple of Poi logo in the back ground.
- Related Information - Because
this site is in excess of 200 pages, we created a Related Information
box on the right side of most pages on the site. In addition
to using the links from the main body, navigation bars and breadcrumb,
we have created quick links to information which might be interesting
to you and set up links in the related information box.
- Testimonials
- Dozens of testimonials appear on the site, giving members
of the community an opportunity to share their success with
the each other.
What's where?
- Poi - This section lists
the 28 different poi classes Temple of Poi currently offers.
All classes meet for 80 minutes except the meditation sections
which run for 30 minutes each. Poi classes are categorized by
skill and focus as follows:
- beginner
- intermediate -- levels I, II and III
- choreography
- performance
- meditation
- Staff - Staff class information
- Hoop - Hoop class information
- Workshops - a listing of
workshop classes. These classes meet (in whole or in part) for
a duration other than 80 minutes which is why they are considered
workshops rather than classes.
- Intensives - this section
outlines training options for our multi-hour workshops which
take place within a week.
- Online Classes - for those
new to poi interested in a structured learning environment but
don't have a teacher nearby, consider our computer based training
system which features over 1300 videos on 70+ web pages.
- Tools - this section outlines
information about flow arts tools and props.
- Flowology™ - This section
is rich with articles about our philosophies, ideas, practices,
structures, and all things related to the study of flow and
flow arts.
- Moves & Combos - for
the more advanced artists, this section offers some videos,
moves, transitions and combinations with a structured breakdown
of the steps. The general outline is available free of charge
while the specific details of each transition requires membership
on the site, but for a limited time this fall, we will be keeping
this area available for everyone to view.

"Spinning and dancing with poi has opened a door to a joyful discovery of feeling and experiencing my body in space, movement and rhythm. Thank you for providing me this opportunity through your school and teachings! I am lucky to have you in my life!" ~K. Keating; January, 2008
"This evolution (of Temple of Poi) must be amazingly exciting for you.
I think it is entirely appropriate, by the way, that the name is
Temple of Poi
and not just
School of Poi.
You are building/growing something really great. Right on. :-)"
~L. Daykin; March, 2005
